Project 5: Bladder Control

Transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation for the treatment of neurogenic bladder

Neurogenic bladder—a bladder that functions abnormally due to nervous system damage—is a common complication after a spinal cord injury. This can lead to urgency, urinary leakage, and an increased risk of medical complications. Improving bladder function is therefore essential for patients’ quality of life.

This project evaluates the effects of early, intensive transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TNS). This approach may help increase bladder capacity, reduce involuntary contractions, prevent urinary problems, and improve patients’ daily lives.
